The National Cyber Resilience Working Group

The National Cyber Resilience Working Group

The Redwood Project invites you to apply to attend a crucial working group in Washington, DC, convened at a turning point for America's cyber defense. This is NOT a conference; it is a closed-door, action-oriented working group for a select group of senior leaders. Our purpose is to leave politics at the door and forge the future of the nation's cybersecurity strategy in response to a foundational shift in federal policy.

A Fundamental Shift in the American Cyber Ecosystem

The issuance of the Executive Order on "Sustaining Select Efforts To Strengthen the Nation's Cybersecurity" has officially triggered a new era. This directive is more than a simple policy update; it is a deliberate recalibration of the federal government's role. By striking down prior mandates, narrowing authorities, and shifting core functions like software security standards to industry-led consortiums, the federal government is unequivocally placing the primary responsibility for cyber defense onto the private sector and state and local governments.

This action does not exist in a vacuum. It comes at a time of government belt tightening, while focusing CISA on its most critical functions that include protecting federal agencies from nation state cybersecurity attacks. Public-private partnerships such as JCDC and the MS-ISAC, a partnership that states have relied upon for years, will be asked to do their part to help ensure the success of the administration's cybersecurity strategy.

The message is clear: the top-down model of cyber defense is over. The time for collective action is now.
